I should have posted this forever ago. When my friends and I decided to host a christmas party the final day of exams we took it pretty seriously. This invites, appetizers, and decorations. That is a lot for a group of college kids. I love sugar cookies and so my original plan was just to make 100 really simple ones in the shapes of christmas trees and ornaments. Well, what’s a better way to procrastinate than by making 200 absurdly intricate snowflake cookie? Answer: there isn’t one.

I have linked the sugar cookie recipe that I used but since everyone has their own favorite a specific recipe isn’t important. What does matter is that the cookies should be crisp on the edges, chewy in the middle, and not brittle at all or you will have a really tough time decorating and transporting them .

The icing was a take on the sour cream glaze that I use on cinnamon buns. To make it stiff enough I added about 1/3C more powdered sugar. Royal icing works just as well but I don’t like the flavor as much.

The fun part about sugar cookies is that you can go a bit, or totally, crazy with the decorating. I went for tiffany blue, white piping, and a sprinkling of sugar crystals.
