Apple Crisp

Fall screams apples. It just does. It’s a fact. There’s apple sauce, apple pie, apple muffins, and even savory uses for apple but as the temperatures drop and wool sweaters come out nothing beats a killer apple crisp. I whipped this up last night for some friends who came over for dinner and it was a big hit! Serve it up with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and you’ve got yourself an awesome and easy crowd-pleasing dessert…and maybe breakfast 🙂

Apple Crisp (serves 6) 

Filling

  • 5 apples
  • zest of 2 lemons
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  •  ⅓ cup sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tsp vanilla

Topping

  • 1 cup flour
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1.5 cup rolled oats
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ lb cold unsalted butter cubed
  1. Preheat oven to 350 F.
  2. Peel and core apples. Slice about 1/4″ thick.
  3. Toss apples, along with the other filling ingredients, in a mixing bowl.
  4. layer filling in 9″x9″ pan.
  5. Combine all topping ingredients in a food processor and pulse until combined. Alternatively, you can use your hands!
  6. Crumble topping on top of the apple filling.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the filling is bubbly and the top is lightly browned!
